You come across a faded and torn page... the sheet gives off a strange, ethereal aura, as if it was intended for a recipient beyond reality...
Magic for dummies!

Do you know next-to-nothing about the magical forces that govern our everyday life? Ever wish you could ______ like a glorious _? Wonder how __ perform those ___? Look no further, this guide will set even the most dull, boring, magic-less people on a journey to being masters of all 5 forces of magic!
Just so you know, wielding magic is...
You skip ahead of pretty generic "don't give up" and "be warned" paragraphs and get to a more interesting-looking portion of the paper...
What exactly is magic?

Magic goes by many descriptions and names from culture to culture, like...
a large blot in the paper has made a lot of this section unreadable... one line you could faintly make out is...
...Flame is especially important in the... culture...
...but magic, as defined by modern scientific advances, is a unique force that can be decoupled into sub-forces known as elements. Each element can manifest as its positive or negative form, such as the Flame element which can both set things ablaze, but also instantly send something into an icy stasis. It's different from every other known force of the universe in many key ways, however. Firstly, its only known emitters include life, our planet's core, and the peculiar phenomena of wellsprings. Also, other non-magical forces can predictably and precisely controlled through non-living tools, while magic is best manipulated by people, animals, or constructs. Magic also doesn't quite interact with matter like other forces, but this isn't a particle physics book... Even with all we know about magic, there's still much to discover.
The five elements of magic.

So, with a basic rundown on magic complete, let's talk about each unique element of magic, and how they tend to be used!
- Flame/Freeze
- Manipulates temperature
- Commonly used in Flame-embued fabrics for icy climates
- Used in the production of explosive devices
- A favorite for flashy shows and performances
- Also used for cooling to preserve food, and to protect against deadly heat.
- Calcify/Corrode
- Shapes solid forms
- Used for contruction, demolition, carving, etc.
- Can be used to reinforce or weaken material
- May not be effective for precise chiseling
- Manipulates some materials more effectively than others.
- Electrify +/-
- Manipulates electromagnetic fields
- Commonly used for lighting
- Used to power non-construct machinery
- Great for magnetic levitation and movement
- Both forms of Electrifying magic, similarly to the non-magical electromagnetic force it manipulates, act identical until they interact with each other.
- Life/Wither
- Controls the state of living
- Has very tight ethical regulations
- Is a powerful tool in the field of medicine
- Used in production of constructs
- Useful for agriculture and maintaining gardens
- Can be used to immobilize dangerous life
- Flow/Detain
- Forces or halts movement
- Great for moving fluids like water or air
- Very important for transportation
- Can be used to move or hold objects without physical tools
Each element has its own use cases, and sometimes even overlapping uses! For some uses that roughly overlap, however, one element may be better in some circumstances while another element might work best for your current needs. You could use both Electrifying and Flame magic for lighting, but...
